21+ Brew Crew

Jesse Walter (2B)

Jesse comes to the St. Louis MSBL from a long and distinguished baseball career. He moved to St. Louis in 1985 from Waterloo Iowa where he was born. His baseball career began on the little league fields of the Manchester Athletic Assoc. Growing up Jesse spent most of his time on the pitchers mound. As he grew up he honed his baseball skills under the tutelage of the best coach a player can have, his father, Ben Walter.  Jesse’s early playing days were marked by participation in All-Star teams and summer leagues that included international tournaments. His fondest Little League memory is striking out the now famous, National League MVP candidate and potential home run and RBI champ, Philadelphia Philly, Ryan Howard. Jesse played baseball and soccer at Vianney High School. It was during his high school days that his desire to play everyday led him from the mound to second base. After high school Jesse played in the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association and with the St. Louis Printers in the NPBL. While with the Printers, his team won a national championship tournament in Florida. Jesse received a scholarship to play baseball and soccer at Fontbonne University. His sophomore year he received all conference honors for his play on the diamond. Jesse has been one of a few bright spots in a generally dismal season for the Brew Crew 21+ team. His play in the field, his offense, and his leadership in the dugout make Jesse an All-Star baseball player and person.

Danny Vermillion (P,SS)

Danny attended Pacific High School and now lives with his wife Tracy and their new-born baby Haley in Union MO.  Danny excelled for the Bulldogs in all three aspects of the game this year.  He went 5-1 with 60 strikeouts and an impressive 1.24 ERA.  He also compiled a .951 fielding percentage while playing shortstop.  Danny batted .397 for the season as the Bulldogs number three hitter.  Along with his unanimous selection to the all star game Danny was also named team MVP.

28+ Brew Crew

Shawn Carr (C)

Shawn Carr has played with the Brew Crew for 2 years and has been a great addition to the team.  He has been a solid catcher both years while batting over .400 every year.  Not only is fighting for the leading batting average on the team, he is also among the top 10 in the 28 and over league in:  Hits, RBI’s, 2B, BB, HBP, and Runs scored.  Great job on the year  Shawn.

28+ Bud Light

Jeff Paur (RHP)

Paur picked up in 2006, where he left off in 2005.  He was 6-2 in his sophomore year with the Bud Light Club including a 6-1 record in the regular season.  In 62 2/3 innings and 10 starts he struck out 55 and walked just nine.   He finished with an excellent ERA of 2.79 and six complete games.  His best performance was on August 1 when he tossed a 7-hit complete game shutout against the Bears.  He contributed with the bat too, hitting a solid .333 with 18 hits.  Two of those hits left the yard which tied him for the team lead in homers.  His HR total led to speculation among many in the league and his own teammates, that performance enhancers might be a factor in his success.  Clearly Paur’s stats speak for themselves.  In his two years with the Bud Light team he has amassed a 13-3 record and 110 strikeouts to go with a 2.74 ERA.  “He was clearly a big reason our team was so successful this season,” said Stewart.  “He took the ball in all the tough games and always left everything he had on the field.”

After that he played a bit in local men's leagues (EMBA, CBL, etc.). Brian's 1st year in the MSBL was 2005 with the Diamondbacks (formally the Renegades).

Brian lists the following among his favorite baseball moments: playing in the 2005 playoffs at T.R. Hughes against Bud Light, then winning the finals in our first season of MSBL.  He says, "I have refound my passion for the game through this league and couldn't ask to play with a better group of guys, who make baseball fun again."

 2006 - 1st on the team in Avg (.456) hits (31) doubles (9) & RBI (23)

28+ Monarchs

This is the second consecutive All-Star appearance for Kris.  In 2006, he set career highs for Hits, Runs, RBI, Batting Avg, On-base percentage, Slugging percentage and OPS while playing in the fewest amount of games in his career.  On the mound, he also recorded his first career victory over the Sharks on 8/4/6 at Long Acre Park.  "I am most proud of helping lead my team to more victories than last year--the ultimate stat.  I had a great time at the All-Star game last year and consider myself to be very blessed to be here again this year."

28+ Rockies

Robert Gemberling

“NO BIO JUST GOOD TEAM PLAYER”

28+ Knights

Brian Woodrick (P,3B,OF)

Brian is a 4-year veteran of the St. Louis MSBL and an original member of the Knights 28+ team. This is his first selection to the All-Star team though he has been an integral member of the Knights team since its inception in 2003.  Brian compiled 6 wins this season, established a 3.29 ERA, and led the League with 53 strikeouts in 55 innings on the mound while allowing only 10 bases on balls.   At the plate, he came on strong in the second half to finish the season with a .437 batting average and 2 home runs for a .729 slugging percentage.

As a collegian, Brian spent a year with the Purdue Boilermaker football team before  transferring back to the University of Missouri where pitched for the Tigers baseball squad.  He played his Legion ball at Florissant Post 444 and high school at McCluer North where they made it to the State tournament in Columbia.  Brian and his wife Sarah will celebrate their 1 year anniversary next month.

28+ Phillies

Grant P. Alward (SS. 3B)

Grant hadn't seen a live fastball in over 11 years until his first at bat for the Phillies in 2006.  In his first regular season for the MSBL, Grant hit over .500 with 4 home runs.  He was chosen by his teammates for his defense at short stop and third base along with his ability to produce runs.

Co-Managers:  Harris Gaynor (Bandits 38+)
Glenn Williams (Bandits 48+)

Team Represented

Representative Player

38+ Angels

Pete LaRocca (P)

Pete LaRocca has been a member of the Angels since the team came into the league in 2003.  Before that he played for the old Sports Print team (now the White Sox).  Pete was last year’s All Star game MVP.  In 2006 Pete led the team with a .782 slugging percentage, hitting 3 triples and 7 doubles, all team highs.  As the team’s number one starter, Pete amassed 57 strike outs in only 61 1/3 innings, second in the league to John Mica of the Storm.  Pete was also second in the league in total innings pitched.  Pete’s talent as both a hitter and pitcher has made him a highly sought after player in the post season by teams traveling to tournaments in Florida and Arizona.

38+ Bandits

Garnet Thurman (OF)

Garnet came to the Bandits in 2004 ripe off the fields of slow pitch softball. Garnet became an instant project. Athleticism, not a problem. Garnet is blessed with an inordinate amount of ability and talent that would make most MSBL-ers marvel. But he was very raw to the game of fast pitch baseball as most people would be who have not played in years. Garnet began to work and work hard from the day he joined the Bandits. Garnet is a very proud individual (I mean that quite positively) and he took the challenge quite personally. Garnet had made great strides in that 2004 season and joined our Florida Tournament Team and was given the duties of lead-off man and has not relinquished those duties to this day. He is The Bandits catalyst. Beginning with the first game of the 2005 season Garnet became the most improved player from one year to the next that I have seen in my 10 years in the MSBL. Once Garnet gets on base you better have a catcher with a cannon - most times that won't even help. He has blazing speed and has developed the baseball skills and instincts to go with it. And don't let his somewhat smaller stature fool you - he is built like a tank and on occasion has exhibited excellent power. In the outfield he has made a couple of catches that would have made the ESPN highlight reel, leaving the earth his body parallel with the ground I have seen him dive and land belly down as he hit full force and the ball stayed in his glove. He has turned himself into a very tough out. He has been a pleasure to coach and one of the most intense competitors I have been around, he will not allow himself or anyone else around him to fail - he makes us all better ball players as well as better people. KUDOS GARNET.

38+ Barons

Steve Slemmer (P)

Steve is one of the Baron’s starting pitchers. He joined the Barons mid season 2004 and has steadily improved. Steve’s record for '06 is 5 wins 1 Loss and 2 saves.    45 years old - born 12/12/60 in Cape Girardeau, MO Now lives in Troy, IL with wife and three children.  Steve has played baseball since he was 7 years old.  Grew up and played Khoury League in Ferguson, MO Attended McCluer Sr High and Flo Valley Community College where he played both football and baseball.  Self-employed - Lawn Service and Pallet Sales.  Enjoys fishing, golfing, watching football and baseball.

38+ Bud Light

Dave Holder (C, 1B)

Holder had an outstanding year at the plate for the Bud Light 38 club hitting a team leading .614 in 16 games this season.  He banged out 27 hits and drove in 21 runs while striking out only once all year.  He also played stellar defense at the catching position and at first base.  He carried the load behind the plate, with catcher Mike Stewart recovering from knee surgery, Holder caught all but two games through mid-July for the team this season.  He was also a solid contributor to the Bud Light 28 squad, hitting a solid .325 in 16 games.  “We’re very fortunate to have Dave for several reasons,” said 38+ Manager Marty Knobloch.  “It’s really tough to find good catching in the 38+ league and he’s as good as they come as a catcher and a hitter and he’s been known to bring a cooler of Bud Light to the game on occasion.”  He routinely threw out runners in both leagues and played a solid first base when called upon according to 28+ Manager Mike Stewart.  This is Holder’s third year in the league and his second consecutive selection to the MSBL 38+ All-Star Team.  In 2005, he was runner-up in the MVP voting for the All-Star Game at Whitey Herzog Field in Belleville.

38+ Bulldogs

Rich Phillips (SS,2B)

Versatility and speed are the main ingredients of this switch hitting middle infielder. A steady stick from both sides, Phillips hit a robust .462 on the season, .582 obp%, with a hefty .690 slugging %. Phillips served as the table setter for a potent Bulldogs offense, leading the team in walks, runs scored, as well as leading the 38 MSBL league in stolen bases with 28. In his 2nd full year, Phillips now a 2 time all- star selection, honed his skills many moons ago for powerhouse juco Meramec C.C., and famed coach Ric Lessman in 81-82, finishing at Kansas St in 83. There he played against Bud Light stalwarts Dave Holder and Bob Faron. Phillips is enjoying his MSBL experience, being coaxed back to baseball by the legendary Jake 'The Snake" Bowers with CAPS in 04 and 05, and now playing with the Bulldogs.

38+ Caps

Gary Luechtefeld (P)

Gary just completed his 5th year as a Caps player in the MSBL league.  As one of the most dominant left-handers to come into our league a lot of players think they are starting to figure him out.  In the ’06 playoffs, Gary threw a 4-hit, 13 strikeout performance in 7 innings.  The truth of the matter is, he thinks he’s a better hitter than he is a pitcher. Better known as “Lucky”, Gary threw 52 innings this year averaging more than 1 strike out per inning and batted over .400.

38+ Cardinals

Scott Knepper (1B, P)

Scott lives in (St. Ann) with his wife of 22 years, Vicki, and 4 children Kevin, Kathy, Kyle and Korey.  Played college ball at Flo Valley.  Scott is 6'2", 215 lbs.  Bat left, throw left and play first base and pitches.  Scott ranked third overall in the 38 division with a batting average of .597 and 29 RBI’s.

38+ Cobras

Randy Johnson (P)

Randy is the ace of the Cobras pitching staff and kept the Cobras in every game he started and inspired his defense to play better around him.  Randy finished with a 1-4 record, a 7.34 ERA and struck out 34 batters while only yielding 18 walks.  Randy pitched complete games in 3 of 5 of his starts.  Were it not for an early season injury, Randy's and the Cobras season may have been a lot different.

Offensively, Randy finished the year with a .224 average including 1 double while playing in 21 of the Cobras 24 games.  Randy led the team in a less than desirable category by getting plunked 3 times by opposing pitchers.  Randy was a tough out all year and only struck out 4 times in 56 plate appearances.

38+ Dukes

NOT REPRESENTED

38+ Express

Wayne Farley (P)

Rookie Year in STL. MSBL.  31 Year Veteran on the Hill.  Intense competitor with above average stuff & a great pickoff move to any base and definitely not afraid to use it at any time.  Stats: .327 Batting Average with gap power & very good running speed.  Pitching:  3wins  2 Losses and a rather Large ERA, but not nearly as microscopic as his fielding PCT.  The Express were lucky enough that a few went into his glove & somehow made their way across the diamond to record an out every now & then.  His Father Clinton & Coach Ron Hunt as well as previous manager Tom Jersan & current teammates would all like to express how proud of Wayne we are on his selection to this year’s All-star team, of which we hope there will be many more.

38+ Game  Face

Jimmy Hall (OF,SS)

Jimmy played near flawlessly at all outfield positions and at shortstop.  Also, in those rare instances where Game Face was ahead after 5 innings, he was a “lights out” 2- inning closer.  At the plate, his statistics were as follows:  11 games, 35 at bats, 17 runs, 20 hits, 10 RBI’s, 7 doubles, 0.6666 Batting Average, 0.950 Slugging Percentage. He is a manager’s dream, because he will play any position you ask him to and he quietly leads by example.  Our record with him in the lineup was stellar.  Frankly, if he had played in 20 games, Game Face +38 would have finished with one of the top two or three records.  He also plays in the Cahokia league.

38+ Pirates

Brett Goudy (P/SS/C)

This was Brett's 1st season with the Pirates, as he relocated to the St. Louis area from Little Rock, AR where he played in the MSBL. He grew up in Kokomo, IN where he played High School baseball. After being a standout baseball player in High School, he moved on to play College Baseball at Ball State in Muncie, IN. While at Ball State Brett had the opportunity to play against many future major leaguers including Andy Benes, who Brett said made him look really bad at the plate. Brett looked pretty good at the plate this season for the Pirates as he batted .353 picking up many key hits. He certainly was a major factor for the Pirate's success this season as he also picked up 5 victories on the mound, and played stellar defense in the field. Above and beyond Brett's consistent abilities on the field is the great attitude he possesses that makes him a super teammate, and one we hope will be with the Pirate's next season.

38+ Sharks

Mark Packette (P,C)

Mark was one of the Sharks leading hitters this season with a .471 batting average and a .549 on base percentage.  He was tough in the clutch, coming up with many key RBI's, which totaled 11 for the season.  Mark can dazzle the hitters on the mound when pitching is needed with a variety of off speed pitches, and is an excellent defensive catcher.

38+  Storm

Steve Pona (P,SS)

Steve is a Rookie to the MSBL playing on the Storm, drafted from the “fuzz-ball” leagues of St. Louis.  This versatile right-hander was the foundation to the Storm.  Playing both Shortstop and Pitcher.  At Pitcher, Steve completed eight of the nine he started, with a 6-2 record.  He led the division for innings pitched with an ERA of 3.06.  His control of batters awed his teammates by accumulating 46 strikeouts.  At Shortstop he resembles a cheetah stalking his prey, balls had little chance getting passed.

At the plate, Steve was a force that opposing pitchers feared.  He led the Storm in Triples and had an OBP of just under 500. His batting average was .386 with a slugging percentage of .491

38+ White Sox

Jimmy  Lange (IF,P)

Jimmy led the White Sox team in 2006 in RBIs, was 2nd in both hits and doubles while hitting .346.  Jimmy is a versatile player, playing both infield and taking time on the mound.

48+ Bandits

Glenn Williams (IF, P)

This is Glenn's first year as an All-Star and he is proud to be representing the defending 48 Bandit 2005 Championship Baseball Club. He led the Bandit's this year in AVG, OBP, SLG, SB, 2B, and Hits. Glenn has played almost every position this year, but mostly middle-infield and relief pitching. He is a tenacious, tough player who understands the game and plays with a lot of heart. He has managed the 48 Bandits since 2005. Most recently, Glenn was named MVP of the 2006 Labor Day Rocket City Classic National Tournament in Huntsville, Alabama

48+ Cardinals

Chris Bahn (OF, ·2B)

Chris, a 10-year veteran of the league, is a very good center-fielder and all around team player.  He can play well anywhere on the field include catcher.  He batted over .400 this year.

48+ Deavers

JJ Cannon (CF)

He played Centerfield, led off batted over 500 and only had 3 errors all season. JJ has been on the Deaver's for two years.  JJ has own construction and salvage company.

48+ Grays

Jule Boyer (SS)

Jule was born and raised in St. Louis, is married and has two daughters, Kelly 17, and Kimberly 15.  He started playing baseball in little league, played 3 years varsity baseball in high school as the starting shortstop. Played for Fenton 400 legion team. Went to Linn Technical college, Linn MO. on a baseball scholarship. During the summers he played 7 years with Joe Sotolar`s Pointers traveling baseball team, which at that time was considered one of the best amateur baseball teams in St. Louis. He then retired to slow pitch softball, which he has been playing two to three night a week ever since. This was his first year in the MSBL but he had a great time and is looking forward to playing many more years.

48+ Paradigm

Glenn Underwood (1B,P)

Glenn has been an MSBL player since 1994.  At 6’5”, 245 lbs, he’s the ideal first-baseman&ldots;. Left-handed and with one hell of a stretch.  Glenn has pitched numerous games in the MSBL as well as Florida Fall Classic tournaments.  With a great team attitude and normally at around a .400 batting average, he has that natural left-handed swing.  For a pitcher who used to throw 92, he has reversed his numbers and now throws 29 with a major league breaking ball.  Better known as “Underdog”.

48+ Sharks

Bob Ramsey (SS)

Bob hit .533 for the Sharks the season in the 48+, with a .600 on base percentage.  He had an outstanding year at shortstop, and came up the big play when the team needed it.  Rammer had many clutch hits this season that made the difference between wins and losses.  His aggressive approach to the game and constant effort to improve make him one of the Shark's most valuable players.

48+  White Sox

Pat Craine (P)

Pat has been a double threat this year for the White Sox, both hitting and pitching.  "Nails" led the team in RBIs while hitting over .500.  On the mound, Pat averaged a strikeout per inning with a 3.11 ERA.

48+ Zips

Gary Warning (C)

Gary is the Zip’s catcher and team MVP.  He is the heart of the team and has continuously made clutch plays and gotten the big hit all season.
