St. Louis MSBL Ejections & Suspensions for the 2007 Season

The following disciplinary actions (14 in total) were taken during the 2007 season.  This posting is not meant to embarrass or humiliate anyone, but rather to benefit all members (and spectators) of the league by encouraging players to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner.  Multiple ejections of the same players will result in Board review and possible suspensions.

On Friday night, Sept. 14th in a  38+ division Playoff game between the  Titan Dukes and Cardinals, #3 Roy Shoffner of the Titan Dukes was ejected by field umpire Mike McManus for intentionly taking out the second baseman while going into second base. The forceout had already occured so there was no intent to break up the play. According to the report this was done in retaliation for an accidental earlier play.  The league cannot condone or tolerate play with intent to cause injury.  Therefore, Steve Elfrink, President of the 38+ division, suspended Roy Shoffner from playing in the first 2 games of the '08 season.  This suspension applies to any age division in which Roy is playing.

On Wednesday 9/19, Rockies 28+ Player/Manager Bob Gemberling # 13 was ejected by base umpire Randy Griffon (2nd inning) at Sauget in a game against the Knights for knowingly and willfully knocking a Knight runner at second base to the ground.  In the umpires' opinions it was clearly intentional.  Subsequently, 28+ President Mark Murphy and 38+ President Steve Elfrink suspended Gemberling from participating in the 28+ & 38+ division playoff games, and put him on probation for all of the 2008 season.  These penalties were upheld in the appeals process by Commissioner Grubbs and the Board of Directors.

August 13, the  38+ Storm was discovered to have an Illegal/Underage Player Chris Queen on their roster.  The matter was thoroughly reviewed by the 38+ President Steve Elfrink, Commissioner Grubbs and also the Board of Directors.  The following decisions were reached.   Manager Craig Uttendorf out for remainder of season as well as the '08 & '09 seasons.  Chris Queen out for remainder of season as well as the '08 & '09 seasons.  All team's wins with the illegal player changed to losses.  The team, under a new manager and in their new league standing, were allowed to participate in the playoffs and also the all-star game.  Penalties were appealed but upheld.

On Wednesday, August 8, Cardinals 48+ player & pitcher, Bob Bierer, was ejected by Umpire Paul Lia in the 4th inning for firing a retaliation ball at the top of the backstop (20 ft. high) after a pitch being called a "ball" and after being asked to not argue balls and strikes.  The ejection caused the game to be prematurely ended since the Cardinals only had 7 players remaining.

On Wed Aug 1st at Brentwood in the Athletics 28 vs Bears game, Chad Beaird #5 of the 28+ Bears was ejected for throwing a bat to the fence on a line after striking out.  No language was used.

As a result of the Mavericks 28+/ Monarchs 28+ incident during the July 8th game at Ozzies, Jarrod Brissenden, Manager of the Monarchs 28+, received the following  suspensions:

1 game for instigating a fight
1 game for fighting
1 game for not controlling or attempting to control his team

Then he appealed to the Commissioner and the Commissioner gave him an additional game for continual verbal abuse of umpires.  He then appealed this which went to the board.  Board members gave him a 4 game suspension.

#9 Kris Kotoucek of the Monarchs shook up a can of beer and went over to the umpires and sprayed beer all over them, in front of the fans watching.  For this he received suspension from the league for the remainder of the '07 season and all of  the '08 season and may re-enter the league in '09 on board approval.

On July 8, Monarchs 28+ #16 Jeff Seggerman was ejected for constant arguing balls and strikes while pitching and playing second.

On July 15 at Washington University Bud Light 38 vs. Tigers,  Rudy Beltran of Bud Light 38 was ejected by Paul Lia for directed foul language toward an official (Paul Lia), and throwing the bat.  He was further given a 2-game suspension by the 38+ president for violating rules 11.a.5 and 11.a.8 of STL MSBL Rules and Code of Conduct.2007.

On Saturday 6/16/07 at Koeneman, #5 Kyle Meyer of the Perfectos 18+ was ejected in the bottom of the 7th inning for foul language directed toward home plate umpire Paul Lia on a third strike pitch.  Later, Kyle hung around and apologized to Paul Lia and Mike McManus for his unusual behavior that was more out of frustration than the officiating which he said was good.  The umps had no other issues with Kyle before, during, or after the game.

Sunday 6/3/07 # 34 Garrett from Bud Light 28+ for excessive arguing of an umpires call on a check swing appeal  at Wash U. By Kelvin Dudley.

Tuesday 5/29/07 #17 Josh Kidwell of the Monarchs 18+ was ejected in the 7th inning by Fred Renollet for using directed foul lanquage toward base umpire Fred Renollet.  Verbal abuse by a player using direct language should result in a suspension of at least one game, particularly since this was in the top of the 7th.

Sat 4/21/07 Brentwood 6:15PM # 15 Landy from 48 Zips Tiek ejected bottom of the 6th inning for verbally abuse an umpire Quote " Those are all F****** Horse**** Calls. Player packed up his stuff and left the park.
